A highlight of our Alberta visit was a sidetrip to a coal mine, where beautiful mountains of beautiful coal are gathered up and burned to fuel the Albertan economy. Remarkably, the company is required by law to return the hills and dales to their original state once extraction is finished. Visually, at least, they succeed.
